Problem solved...

Buy one of those heart rate monitors from any Sporting Goods store. The kind that you strap the sensor around your chest and read out your stats on the supplied watch while you work out.

I had an early lesson one Saturday, so I decided to teach and then go work out. I taught in my workout clothes with the heart rate monitor on (I thought I would measure how many calories I burned during a 30 minute lesson). As soon as I fired up the amp, there was my beat (tink, tink, tink, tink).

It comes through loud and clear.
