What's Next for the Woodshed?
I've relocated my woodshed to San Diego. My immediate plan is to find work for a while and consider cheaper options for music school (starting with CSUN and SDSU). Unfortunately, this means less practice time, but I'm also going to start playing out again. It will be nice to apply and refine my playing style that's been taking shape over the past year.
More updates to come as I settle into my new hometown, look for performing opportunities, and continue preparing for music school somewhere.

Best of luck to you. Hate to see the woodshed slow down, but life still goes on.

Good luck! I hope the new location opens up some new opportunities for you.

Oh I invented a scale by the way, I can't find it anywhere else, I've called it the Super Blues for over a I7 chord
1 2 b3 3 5 b7

That's a good one. I've been using 1 2 3 5 b7 for a while as a pentatonic over dominant chords. When using it, I always kept in mind that b2, b3, and 7 can be used as passing tones. I guess I view the blues scale the same way. I primarily think of a minor pentatonic with passing tone possibilities on 3, b5, and 7.

Hey Joe,
I have a silly practical question for you. What will you tell prospective employers you did in the year you took off to practice. I'm sure it will come up in interviews. I have my reasons for asking this. Good luck with all your musical endeavors.

I have a practical answer to your practical question. I tell the truth. No sense lying about it. And I'm certainly not ashamed of it, so there's no sense hiding it. I had around 10 interviews (in person and by phone) this month, and I think the topic came up in every one. The typical response was at least fascination, which doesn't hurt. I tried to say it shows how obsessed I am with learning in general. But I also made it clear that I eventually want a career in music. Who knows, maybe that's why I only got one job offer after all those applications and interviews. Oh well, I'm employed now, and I got here without being dishonest, so I'm happy.
